Oh, boy. EbOY switched to WordPress.

Former Common Lisp figurehead EbOY has switched to WordPress. I'm awaiting EbOY clones any second now … :-)

The Task at Hand

One reddit user really had some problems with my last blog entry Don't say "no"! In the comments on reddit he was obsessed with the four little words "the task at hand". I was giving a bad advice by letting a programmer choose his own tools to do his work. As if a programmer can't think for himself. When you don't have any additional budget at all and you think Delphi would fit the current problem, then you are out of luck....

Don't say "no"!

Lisp is for the mediocre programmer, too.(Based on my posting <2T2radg3IosmNv8%stesch@parsec.no-spoon.de>) Every now and then I read a Usenet posting or blog entry about the somewhat frightening question from management: "Will someone else be able to work on your Common Lisp code?" Then most people explain why they had to say "no". You all know the reasons why they think they have to give this answer. But are the reasons really valid?...

Tip for users of Lispbox 0.7 for Windows: Upgrading from GNU CLISP 2.37 to version 2.38

Lispbox is used by people who want to learn Common Lisp, not how to manage their installation of the IDE and Common Lisp implementation. So here are the simple steps you have to do if you want to upgrade your Lispbox 0.7 for Windows to GNU CLISP 2.38: Download current version from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1355 (I've chosen the version with readline and gettext.) Extract the directory clisp-2.38 to your lispbox directory....

A Night Elf gave me long trousers for X-Mas

I was running around in shorts. A mighty Gnome Warlock, spending some time at Loch Modan. But this night a Night Elf gave me a nice present: Long trousers and something that goes along with this. Yes, I'm playing World of Warcraft again. After some months without WoW I thought it could be a fun to try it again. This time during the X-Mas season. And the X-Mas and winter spirit is going crazy in Azeroth....

Browser game Space-Pioneers

Some weeks ago a colleague recommended me the browser game Space-Pioneers. I'm still playing it and have some fun. A classical "produce resources, build something, defend and fight" game. Placed in space (hence the name :-) First you start with just one little planet and enough resources to build mines for metal and crystal. Later you control 9 (13) planets, have space ships, and act like a trader or warrior....

Typo is no Virus!

Visiting my own weblog in a lunch break is always very funny. The F-Secure Anti-Virus on my computer at work always thinks it has to warn me about a possible threat. But not all Typo based weblogs are dangerous. But then again ... it warned me when I was evaluating FCKeditor, too.

New software

Yesterday I have installed Typo and migrated the few old articles by hand. The old RSS feed hasn't changed — thanks to a little rewrite rule. Too bad there is no way to specify the category yet, so Planet Lisp gets the whole feed instead of just the Common Lisp stuff. But I'm trying to change this. Or maybe just produce more (Lisp) output.
